Draft Council Plan and 2031 Community Vision in final stages of development!

Every four years Council works with the community to develop a new Council Plan. The Plan identifies priorities for action and determines how Council will allocate resources to make them happen. In February to April 2021, we asked the community to let us know what was important for the next four years and this has been incorporated into the draft Council Plan 2021-25.

We also checked in on the Wellington 2031 Community Vision. 2031 is the community's long-term hopes for the future of our Shire. The 2031 Vision was developed in 2017 and we have reviewed the first four years of delivery against it.

During July and August 2021 we sent these draft documents out for consultation and now we're taking in the feedback and finalising the documents, ready for adoption in October.

Key Council Plan priorities

The draft Council Plan 2021-25 includes five emerging opportunities and priorities and four Strategic Directions.

What happens next?

We have completed Stage 2 consultation to gather the community's thoughts on the draft Council Plan 2021-25 and the Wellington 2031 Community Vision check in. Feedback from the community will be presented to Councillors and any required changes will be made to these two documents before they are adopted by Council in October 2021. A summary of stage 2 consultation will be posted on this page when it is available.

We were advised by someone at council that a bike/footpath would be constructed along Cobains Rd from the Princes Hwy to GRSC. Is this still going ahead in the 2020/2021 budget as advised?

Kat Ess asked about 3 years ago

    Hi Kat,

Yes this job is on the list for this year. Works are expected to start in the next month!

    Thanks

What is going to happen with Mozzie spraying ? It should be a regular occurrence at Golden Beach. It makes living in the area very hard to enjoy. We pay a lot for rates and do not receive much in return. The mosquito's are worse than ever.

Dave asked about 3 years ago

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for your question.

Council operates a mosquito control program in conjunction with the DHHS. Our program generally operates for 6 months of the year providing surveillance and control of mosquitoes within the coastal townships of Seaspray, The Honeysuckles, Golden Beach, Paradise Beach, Longford and Loch Sport.

Control work involves the spraying of mosquitoes in a number of identified (public/government) sites.

Our unit responds to public complaints as well as using social and traditional media to educate the residents/visitors on the risk of disease and how to protect themselves.

You can contact the Environmental Health team on 1300 366 244 if you want more detail about this.

    Thanks
