Draft Council Plan 2021-25!
Consultation has concluded
Draft Council Plan and 2031 Community Vision in final stages of development!
Every four years Council works with the community to develop a new Council Plan. The Plan identifies priorities for action and determines how Council will allocate resources to make them happen. In February to April 2021, we asked the community to let us know what was important for the next four years and this has been incorporated into the draft Council Plan 2021-25.
We also checked in on the Wellington 2031 Community Vision. 2031 is the community's long-term hopes for the future of our Shire. The 2031 Vision was developed in 2017 and we have reviewed the first four years of delivery against it.
During July and August 2021 we sent these draft documents out for consultation and now we're taking in the feedback and finalising the documents, ready for adoption in October.
Key Council Plan priorities
The draft Council Plan 2021-25 includes five emerging opportunities and priorities and four Strategic Directions.
What happens next?
We have completed Stage 2 consultation to gather the community's thoughts on the draft Council Plan 2021-25 and the Wellington 2031 Community Vision check in. Feedback from the community will be presented to Councillors and any required changes will be made to these two documents before they are adopted by Council in October 2021. A summary of stage 2 consultation will be posted on this page when it is available.

What does success look like in 2025?
about 2 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded. It's important that we understand what outcomes you would like to see by 2025. If you were walking around the Shire in 2025, what improvements would you expect to see?
Below are the ideas that were shared by community members during our Stage 1 consultation, which closed 3 April.
Katieover 2 years agoPreserve our 90 mile beach
People don't value the incredible wilderness in Wellington. There are huge issues with the free camping sites, and people just driving into the bush to camp--rubbish, poo, utes driving on the beach; dune buggies on the beach. It is such a fragile environment, so much biodiversity, this damages the dunes and destroys cultural heritage--I've never seen so many middens. Elevate 90 mile beach, promote it, stop the bogans driving on the beach

Things todo

Lower speed limits along Shoreline Drive, Golden Beach... People going way over 60kph, with the amount of people going and coming to the beach that use the tracks scattered through the coastal park, there is not much view of the road, some areas you are nearly on the road before you can see if any traffic is approaching, and with some of them travelling way over the recommended speed limit, it is getting very dangerous...

Trial neigbourhood battery storage--see https://www.energy.vic.gov.au/new-energy-technologies?_ga=2.28611576.511702776.1614552435-2055225962.1611877238. This would be awesome for energy security (eg if bushfires), and tranition to clean energy. In 90 mile beach region maybe?
0 comment1Maytover 2 years agoBetter designed reserves that increase biodiversity and offer a space for community connectedness
I live in sale and there are many walk through reserves throughout the town that consist of lawn, a few trees and a footpath. My issue with these spaces is that they are not meeting their potential. I would like to see a reduction in unused lawn (not complete removal) and to see removed replaced with low maintenance native grasses and other such plants that will increase urban spaces biodiversity and reduce the need for mowing by the council. Lawn mowers are insanely heavy carbon emitters, more so than cars, and I don't see the point of regularly mowing these lawns if no body uses them. Plus, with greater biodiversity there would be a better place for our native wildlife to live and just generally prettier places for nearby resident to hang out. I think these spaces also have the potential to acts as a place of community togetherness. If these spaces were to contain half basket ball courts, fruit trees, a community garden, picnic tables or shaded BBQ areas it would create a space where you are more likely to see you neighbors and perhaps instill a greater sense of community.

BodyeDover 2 years agoDevelop a tourism strategy for Golden Beach (Stacey, John, Beverly, William and Anne)
Protect and promote this amazing environment so that even more people make the journey and discover Golden Paradise Beach for themselves.
0 comment1Kate1985about 2 years agoIncreased capacity for long daycare and kinder in Yarram and surrounding areas
There are inadequate spaces for children and families requiring long daycare and kinder in Yarram and its surrounding areas with no other alternatives available
0 comment0BodyeDover 2 years agoA "Sunset Deck" at or near the Golden Beach Golf Club, Lake Reeve or somewhere in town with a high viewing platform.
A "Morning View" deck somewhere near the beach or as an addition to the existing platform towards the left of the beach entry to allow for seating and a slightly larger group of people. An all access beach deck with chairs and tables. A treetop style deck would be a great feature so that people can visit the high platform to take in the surrounding views of the area. A photography drone could help to determine the best location and or locations for these. Stacey, John, Beverly, William and Anne
0 comment1BodyeDover 2 years agoAdd a fountain with aeration to Lake Reeve. Will beautiful and may help with keeping water flowing and mosquitos down
This would beautify Lake Reeve. A fountain with an aeration system would make a nice feature and also keep the water flowing on both sides of the lake. It could be contained to two small pools at an equal distance from the bridge. When the area is flooded it may assist with keeping the water flowing so that the mosquito population is kept down. It can be allowed to run dry at times when it isn't required and still make a nice display. A business called, 'Water Quality Solutions' might be able to help. (Stacey, John, Beverly, William and Anne)
0 comment0BodyeDover 2 years agoAdd a welcome to Golden Beach sculpture
It might be some kind of an archway that's unique and or symbolic to the location. The place could gradually develop a new and positive identity. (Stacey, John, Beverly, William and Anne)
