About Future Wellington

The Future Wellington project was launched in early 2024, with the purpose to shape the future of our community.

Future Wellington involved reviewing the five long-term plans that guide our work and the priorities we deliver, the now adopted Community Vision 2041 has directly informed the development of the draft Council Plan 2025–29, Financial Plan, Asset Plan, and the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan – Live Well in Wellington.

The draft plans below are now open for feedback up until 16 July 2025:

The Journey

Thank you to everyone who has contributed their ideas and aspirations during all stages of consultation for Future Wellington. We had nearly 1,900 responses across surveys, competitions, workshops and postcards which was amazing to see! Your input is critical in helping shape the future of our communities. Following the stage 1 engagement the Future Wellington Community Check-in Findings Report was produced.

Stage 2 engagement included the formation of the Future Wellington Think Tank. This group consisted of 22 passionate community members, who reflected the diverse demographics of Wellington Shire. Their role was to analyse the feedback collected during the first stage of consultation and draft the new Community Vision statement and Guiding Principles.

We are now in the final stages of engagement, the Community Vision 2041 has been adopted informing the development of draft Council Plan 2025-29, Financial Plan, Asset Plan, and the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan - Live Well in Wellington which are now available for feedback until 16 July 2025.

What's Next

Following the consultation period, all feedback will be reviewed and considered to finalise the draft plans. The final versions will then be presented to Council for formal adoption, after which they will be finalised and made publicly available.
