Have your say to age well in Wellington Shire

Wellington Shire Council is keen to better understand what ageing in Wellington Shire looks like for you. You are invited to complete a short survey to let us know how we can best support you, or someone you care for to live a happy and healthy life in the local community.

Older adults contribute greatly to community life and are our fastest growing population groups. It is more important than ever that support services and programs are supporting residents to age well, live healthy lives, and be engaged and connected in the local area.

We know that ageing well is a key consideration for our community, so we're seeking feedback from older residents, carers and family members to get a better understanding of your experience of ageing. When considering aged care services, we know that it is not always easy to understand and requires a high level of self-advocacy. We want to hear from you about the care, services and experiences you’re using and your thoughts on what needs improving in the future.

Council will be coordinating a number of engagement activities over November and December 2022 to gather community feedback, including pop up stands in the community, telephone surveys and an online survey. Information from this project will help shape investment in programs, services and infrastructure across the shire.

Background

The Wellington Shire Council Plan 2021-2025 recognises Council’s role in responding to Victorian Government reforms to Home and Community Care, and a major initiative is to determine the most appropriate support to be facilitated by Council for people to age well in our community.

Significant Victorian Government reforms commenced in 2016 when the Australian Government took over full funding, policy and operational responsibility of aged care services in Victoria. Ultimately, aged care services including home based aged care are now delivered by private service providers.

Council does not provide aged care services, but has a role to play in influencing outcomes for the local community and planning to ensure services meet local needs.

What happens next?

Once you have provided your feedback using all or some of the tools on this page, Council's Social Planning and Policy team will collate, review and analyse the feedback received and prepare a summary on what we heard and how we are using your input, comments and ideas.
