About the project

Constructed out of asphalt, the track will provide a smooth surface that will cater for beginner and intermediate riders of BMX, mountain bikes, scooters and skateboards, as well as inline (rollerblades and roller skates).

This project is funded by the Seaspray Reserves Committee of Management ($50,000) and the Federal Government ($100,000), it is anticipated that construction will commence early February 2023 and be completed within eight weeks (weather pending).

Yarram Pump Track - constructed by Common Ground Trails in 2020

Background

Throughout May 2022 Council undertook consultation with the residents of Seaspray and The Honeysuckles to determine the level of support for the construction of an asphalt pump track on the foreshore at Seaspray. With a high level of support from locals we took the next steps to engage qualified track builders, Common Ground Trails to develop three concept designs for the site.

The project brief for the development of the concepts was to:

  • cater for beginner and intermediate skills
  • consider existing terrain and not impact sensitive dunes or impede access
  • construction out of asphalt to allow for a range of wheeled recreational activities

The pump track is designed in such a way that the user, be it mountain bike, BMX, scooter, and even roller blades does not need to push or pedal – it is all done on momentum.

Forming part of the recreational opportunities for young people across the municipality, Seaspray will be the sixth pump track constructed and will provide users a point of difference from existing pump tracks in Heyfield, Maffra, Sale, Stratford, and Yarram.

Funding for the $150,000 project has come from the Seaspray Reserves Committee of Management and the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (Round 3). Council Officers will deliver the project. Council will enter into a License Agreement with the Seaspray Reserves Committee of Management to manage and maintain the pump track site into the future.

Construction is set to commence late January 2023 and take approximately 8 weeks (weather pending).
