Why is Council expanding the existing skate park

The Maffra Skate Park was constructed in 2003 and through the development of Council's Youth Play Plan, it was identified that there was a need to enhance the facility to provide an increased opportunity for physical activity for young people.

Will CCTV be included in this project?

Closed circuit television cameras are a tool used by Victoria Police to monitor known hot spots where crime statistics support. While there is instances of minor vandalism, the construction of the skate park does not support the inclusion of CCTV. Should Victoria Police crime statistics change over the coming years, this will be reviewed.

Why is the shelter being relocated?

As identified in other consultation around the skate park, a shelter was requested for parents to sit and watch children using the facility. Rather than construct two within close proximity, Council and the design team see it as an opportunity to relocate and enable parents and spectators to see both the pump track and the skate park.

What other infrastructure will be installed?

Tables and the rubbish bins will be relocated along with the shelter.

Further investigations are required before a drinking fountain can be installed within the skate park precinct.

Should additional seating be required, this will be undertaken at a later stage.
