EOI’s for Free training have closed and those who completed an EOI will be contacted via email if there are available suitable training opportunities.

Wellington Shire Council has a fantastic opportunity to run FREE training sessions to boost community resilience and preparedness. Designed for anyone aged 18 and over, these professionally run sessions are perfect for learning new skills, preparing for emergencies, and connecting with fellow community members.

Training sessions can be held in your community hall or recreation reserve if there is interest from your community.

Important Note: Courses will be Monday to Friday during business hours. Limited courses/spaces are available. Course type and location are based on interest and demand from the community.

In the form below let us know your contact details and what training you’re interested in. We will use these responses to determine courses and locations. Once there is sufficient interest, we will contact you with a date and time for the training.

Training sessions on offer

The training to be offered will cover a wide array of subjects, all focusing on community preparedness and resilience.

  • First Aid: This accredited course teaches the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies and provide a first aid response, including CPR. Allocation Exhausted
  • Mental Health Awareness: This program discusses how to recognise someone experiencing an emotional crisis or a developing mental health issue and gives you the tools on how to respond appropriately.
  • Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance: The Operate and Maintain Chainsaw training course covers the skills and knowledge needed to safely operate and keep a hand-held chainsaw in good condition. It applies to cutting up fallen timber using safe cutting techniques. Allocation Exhausted
  • Get Techy, Get Ready: An interactive workshop designed to empower people to use technology (specifically phone applications) more effectively, before, during and after natural disasters and other emergencies. Allocation Exhausted
  • Insurance Workshop: Are you adequately covered if an event were to occur today? These workshops will cover many topics including, power outages, home and contents, agricultural insurance, and will answer questions on legal matters relating to disasters. Most importantly it will be delivered by professionals working in the legal sector!

Due to allocation exhaustion First Aid, Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance and Get Techy Get Ready Workshops are no longer available for expressions of interests. If positions become available, courses will be advertised.

    Mental Health Awareness and Insurance Workshops received grant funding from the Victorian Government’s 2022-23 Council Flood Support Fund. 

    First Aid, Chainsaw Training and Get Techy, Get Ready Workshops received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities – Local Stream Grant.
