Planning towards an LED lighting upgrade at Woodside Recreation Reserve Oval

Wellington Shire Council is engaging with residents that surround the Woodside Recreation Reserve, as we are currently preparing to apply for State Government funding to support this project. The proposed LED lighting upgrade will provide the community with safer facilities, in line with sporting code guidelines.

Have Your Say

If you would like to provide feedback about the project, you can do so in the following ways:

  • Provide your feedback and comments about the project via short survey by clicking here (or using the survey link below)
  • Contact Council’s Community Facilities Project Officer, Courtney Bicknell on (03) 5142 3228.

Consultation will close Tuesday 17 June 2025.

Background

The lighting upgrade will involve removal of the existing light towers that are approximately 16 meters tall (including metal halide light fixtures). The four new proposed towers will be approximately 30 meters tall and include LED light fixtures to a minimum of 100 lux. The new towers and LED fixtures will improve lighting on the playing field and reduce lighting spill for neighbours.

Council's number one priority in the 2021-25 Council Plan is Climate Change, with the goal to create a climate resilient community with sustainable practices and places. The use of LED globes will assist with this priority and at the same time reduce running costs for users and groups.

Please see the image below of new LED lights at Cowwarr Recreation Reserve, installed in August 2021. "The LED lighting technology is quite amazing. The residual glow from the lights is really insignificant and our electrical bills have been reduced by about 40%, we are very happy with the new lighting" - Garry Blair, Cowwarr Recreation Reserve committee.
