What type of light fittings will be installed as part of the project?

Smart LED light fittings will be installed. Unlike the existing metal halide light fittings that are installed LED light fittings control light spill (obtrusive light) really well. This means that the sports field lights can do what they are designed to do, which is focus light onto the sports field and not onto neighbouring properties.

    What does light spill mean?

Light Spill is when light falls outside the object to be illuminated. With most external lighting schemes, typically carparks or sports pitches, there can be some spill of light.

With the assistance of a sports lighting professional Council have ensured the Australian Standard ‘Control of the obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting spill’ (AS 4282) is well under the recommended maximum light spill.

Why are the towers taller than the existing towers?

The lighting towers proposed in the lighting design are taller than the existing light towers and are designed in accordance with Australian Standard AS 2560.2. Taller poles are required to provide more light on the field and minimize spill light and glare. The existing light towers are short and do not comply with heights as proposed by Australian Standard AS 2560.2.
