Stratford Structure Plan

About the Project

The Stratford Structure Plan will provide a 20 year ‘strategic vision’ to guide future growth, infrastructure, local services, and better connectivity to define the preferred direction for future growth and how change will be managed.

Structure Plans aim to provide a long-term framework to guide sustainable development within townships, specifying what type of growth can be achieved.

The Stratford Structure Plan will be used as the basis to support formal changes to the Wellington Planning Scheme through revised planning provisions, to facilitate the implementation of the Plan’s land use recommendations for further information you can visit the planning projects page.

Stratford Structure Plan – first round of community consultation

The Wellington Strategic Planning Team, in collaboration with Mesh Planning, held the first round of community consultation sessions for the Stratford Structure Plan in Stratford on 5 March and 6 March 2025. The purpose of these sessions was to present the project to the community and obtain initial feedback regarding residential growth opportunities, industrial land supply, commercial uses, and other key aspects of the town.

Have Your Say – second round of community consultation - presentation of the Draft Emerging Plan

A second round of in-person community consultation will be held on 28 May 2025 (further details below).

At these sessions (repeated) the following will be discussed:

  • Reflecting Back: Confirm the key issues and opportunities raised during the first round of engagement to ensure the communities feedback has been accurately captured.
  • Sharing the Emerging Plan: Presentation of a draft option for the Stratford Structure Plan. This will include ideas for residential growth, ways to enhance the existing township, and potential future connections. We want to know — does this reflect what you want for Stratford?
  • Filling the Gaps: This is another chance for the community to raise any ideas or issues that may not have been mentioned before, and to explore more detail around the opportunities identified so far.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

The Stratford Structure Plan will provide a 20 year ‘strategic vision’ to guide future growth, infrastructure, local services, and better connectivity to define the preferred direction for future growth and how change will be managed.

This survey is to help inform the scoping stage of the Stratford Structure Plan to help paint a picture of Stratford as it currently is as well as the opportunities and the community's aspirations for the area.

Structure Plans aim to provide a long-term framework to guide sustainable development within townships, specifying what type of growth can be achieved.

A Structure Plan is a plan for how a town or area will grow and develop in the future. It sets a vision and goals for things like housing, roads, parks, and buildings, helping to shape the area in the future.
The Stratford Structure Plan is looking at the next 20 years and whilst some ideas or parts of the community's vision may land outside of Council's control there is opportunity in a Structure Plan to enable growth which can support the community's vision.
