Consultation has concluded

Wellington Shire Council is planning towards an upgrade of the Sale main oval lighting.

We are currently undertaking engagement with residents that live in the area surrounding the reserve.

If you would like to provide feedback about the project, you can do so in the following ways:

  • Provide your feedback and comments about the project via short survey by clicking here (or using the survey link below)
  • Contact Council’s Community Facility Planning Officer, Rachel Weatherley on 03 5142 3260.

Consultation will close Friday 22 September 2023

The main oval is a focal point for the clubs that use the reserve; Sale Football Netball Club, and Sale Cricket Cub. It is really important to all participants and visitors to have high quality standard facilities for competition and training. The existing lighting is old technology; inconsistent across the oval; does not align with recommended standards; and does not meet AFL and Cricket compliance for competition, training and fielding/ball skills.

The proposed LED lighting upgrade will provide the community with safer facilities, in line with Cricket and AFL standards.

The lighting upgrade will involve removal of the four existing light towers (approximately 25 metres tall including metal halide light fixtures). The new proposed towers will be 30.6 metres high and will include LED light fixtures. The taller towers and LED fixtures will improve the lighting on the playing field and reduce lighting spill (unwanted transmission of light) for neighbours.

Council's number one priority in the 2021-25 Council Plan is Climate Change, with the goal to create a climate resilient community with sustainable practices and places. The use of LED globes will assist with this priority and at the same time reduce running costs for users and groups.

Please see the image below of new LED lights at Cowwarr Recreation Reserve, installed in August 2021.
"The LED lighting technology is quite amazing. The residual glow from the lights is really insignificant and our electrical bills have been reduced by about 40%, we are very happy with the new lighting" - Garry Blair, Cowwarr Recreation Reserve committee.
