Shape the future of Arts and Culture

Help us shape arts and culture throughout Wellington Shire.

We’re working hard towards a new five-year Arts and Cultural Strategy called ‘Our Culture, Our Place’.

'Our Culture, Our Place’ will help us create a connected community across galleries, theatres, libraries, events, and open spaces.

Our role in cultural development is to set the vision for our communities, implement planning and policy, and to advocate for funding to support key projects across services, infrastructure and programming.

Council is proud to continue its vital role in Wellington’s cultural life by engaging with our community. The survey and discussion groups will guide our support and investment in arts and culture throughout Wellington over the next five years.

Our current support ensures that a wide range of art forms flourish, from live performances to exhibitions, festivals and events, public art and community arts projects, and support for local artists and creatives. The Strategy will also provide opportunities to strengthen programs for young people, First Nations communities, and community members from diverse backgrounds, creating opportunities for greater social inclusion, wellbeing, and connectivity for all residents.

We also recognise the key role arts and culture plays in building a strong local economy. The Arts and Cultural Strategy aims to build on Wellington’s existing strengths, increasing the profile and support for creative industries, increasing cultural tourism opportunities, and attracting more visitors to Wellington, and The Middle of Everywhere.

Council is hosting opportunities for engagement during August, with the aim of finding out how we can make arts and culture a part of daily life in Wellington. We encourage you to ‘have your say’ by completing the online survey or attending a discussion group, so that we can enhance, strengthen and position Wellington as a liveable and creative city!

To achieve this, we’re keen to ask you some important questions about the culture that currently exists in your community, and what you do to create it.

How to get involved

Facilitated discussion groups will help us understand how you and your family can make the most out of opportunities for learning and creativity across libraries and cultural spaces such as galleries, theatres, open spaces, historical and culturally significant sites, public spaces, and other creative and public spaces.. These spaces have the opportunity to build greater community connections through discovery and education.
