Background
The western side of the Port of Sale did have an official name, with the land being formally described as 10~7\PP3468. The area proposed for naming is pictured below and is accessed from Park Street Sale, south of the Park Street bridge.
The area includes:
- The Port of Sale boat ramp
- The shed for the Port of Sale Boat Club
- Carpark and open space areas
This area has held events such as the Sale Music Festival in 2025 and the Rainbow Road Run Colour Run in 2024 as part of Parks Week. The Place Names Committee at Wellington Shire Council invited contributions for the naming of this area at the end of 2025.
The Place Names Committee has formally recommended to Council at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 3 March that the land be named:
The Anchorage Reserve
Any objections must be sent via email to placenames@wellington.vic.gov.au in the 30-day period from when first advertised locally to be considered. Following this period if no objections are received then the name will be registered with Geographic Names Victoria.
