The Golden Beach Community Centre Reserve plays a vital role in supporting local liveability and tourism in Golden Beach.
While the foreshore is a major drawcard, the Golden Beach Community Centre Reserve offers the only public play space in the town alongside amenities, parking, picnic and barbecue facilities. The reserve is closely connected to surrounding community assets, including the Golden Beach Community Centre, RV campsite, basketball court and the adjoining Coastal Foreshore Reserve managed by Parks Victoria and the Gunaikurnai Land and Water Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC).
With an identified need to enhance some of the services on offer, the Master Plan will help guide future decisions for improvements, so that the reserve can better meet current and future needs of the community.
The development of the Golden Beach Community Centre Reserve Master Plan is intended to guide the long-term renewal, enhancement and management of community assets within the reserve. Highly valued by both residents and visitors, the reserve plays a critical role in supporting community life in Golden Beach, particularly during peak holiday periods when the population increases significantly with visitors.
The Master Plan will provide a clear, staged framework to guide future investment, renewal of aging infrastructure and improved functionality of the reserve, ensuring it continues to meet the evolving needs of the community and visitors.
The development of the Master Plan aims to:
- Upgrade and expand facilities
- Document a clear vision, actions and staged implementation plan to attract funding
- Compliment and connect with surrounding facilities (Foreshore Reserve, 3 on 3 Basketball Court)
- Increase physical activation opportunities for young people
The project must align with:
- Future Wellington 2041 Vision - inclusive, connected communities; economic innovation; environmental stewardship; youth participation; cultural heritage; transparency and engagement
- Council Plan 2025-2029 - Healthy Connected Communities, Dynamic and Diverse Economy, Infrastructure/Places/Spaces, Natural Environment
- Public Open Space Strategy 2014-2024 & 2026-2036 - enhancing accessibility, quality, and environmental resilience
- Live Well in Wellington 2025-2029 - Healthy and Active: Creating local environments and opportunities that support healthy eating and physical activity
