Draft Council Plan 2021-25!
Consultation has concluded
Draft Council Plan and 2031 Community Vision in final stages of development!
Every four years Council works with the community to develop a new Council Plan. The Plan identifies priorities for action and determines how Council will allocate resources to make them happen. In February to April 2021, we asked the community to let us know what was important for the next four years and this has been incorporated into the draft Council Plan 2021-25.
We also checked in on the Wellington 2031 Community Vision. 2031 is the community's long-term hopes for the future of our Shire. The 2031 Vision was developed in 2017 and we have reviewed the first four years of delivery against it.
During July and August 2021 we sent these draft documents out for consultation and now we're taking in the feedback and finalising the documents, ready for adoption in October.
Key Council Plan priorities
The draft Council Plan 2021-25 includes five emerging opportunities and priorities and four Strategic Directions.
What happens next?
We have completed Stage 2 consultation to gather the community's thoughts on the draft Council Plan 2021-25 and the Wellington 2031 Community Vision check in. Feedback from the community will be presented to Councillors and any required changes will be made to these two documents before they are adopted by Council in October 2021. A summary of stage 2 consultation will be posted on this page when it is available.

What does success look like in 2025?
about 3 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded. It's important that we understand what outcomes you would like to see by 2025. If you were walking around the Shire in 2025, what improvements would you expect to see?
Below are the ideas that were shared by community members during our Stage 1 consultation, which closed 3 April.
peteman17about 3 years agoConnect Rosedale to existing rail trails.both rail& highway bring people but a trail gives them a reason to explore &spend
Expand the trails and create a tour experience
0 comment2Mike99about 3 years agoYou need people, new residents, new jobs and visitors. I have a few suggestions.
1. You have to find a niche industry. Such as retirement homes. Melbourne is expensive now. 2. You could consider medical related industries, build purpose built facilities for providers; plastic surgeons, pill makers etc. 3. Tidy up the entrances to all major towns, planting attractive shrubs, trees etc 4. Tree/shrub the central reservations between dual carriageways , name them after local non controversial identities. 5. Separate recycling more and bury that which is not currently useful, technologies change. 6. Beside lake Guthridge you need a cafe for tourists to sit and enjoy the views. 7. On the grass reserve behind Lazzaro pop a jumbo jet or submarine, something of interest that people can enjoy. 8. Make more RV friendly parking spaces so people can park close to the Sale shopping Centre/ Raymond street. 9. Pop more Rubbish collecting bins around Wellington shire so there is less rubbish spread around. 10. You need more attractions, there’s the big banana ! Sale you have the Big Cow or something. 11. You could promote a singles weekend every other month. 12. Finally put together a venture capital fund for drawing out new ideas that could create jobs.

1 comment0Broatthebeachabout 3 years agoOptions apart from septic systems to be considered where town sewerage not available
Council needs to be open to alternative options to sewerage disposal. If town sewerage is not available the only option considered is septic. There are other options such as composting toilet systems that can be used in environmentally sensitive areas that are not as costly as septic systems but also use less water which needs to be considered when the only water source is tank water. Composting systems and the associated benefits for the environment as well as financially for homeowners is greater than septic systems. Council needs to consider this type of waste system as a suitable option.

Bike packing is becoming a major activity. Sale is being left out as we are not connected to the rail trail. It’s a beautiful ride out to the swing bridge. Connecting the bike paths to the rail trail would benefit all.

This could be a feature as well as informative. (Stacey, John, Beverly, William and Anne)
0 comment0Lucasabout 3 years agoMore public basketball courts or half courts in Wellington Shire
Possible locations: Fauna Park Sale Seaspray near Surf Life Saving Club Corner of Palmerston and Macarthur Street Sale I'm sure there's other locations people can think of.
0 comment0BodyeDabout 3 years agoNature discovery centre at Golden Beach
It could boost tourism, inform visitors, be a place to learn about the local wildlife and nature, welcome volunteer groups, support and host schools, offer holiday programs, forums and festivals, include Parks Victoria, the 90 Mile Beach groups, a place for artists, creative people and professionals of all kinds to host exhibits, shows, etc, it would benefit the community and be a welcome attraction to the place. A cafe and gift shop alongside the centre may add to the appeal as well as a landscaped garden with artwork, sculptures and a playground. (Stacey, John, Beverly, William and Anne)
0 comment0Kate1985about 3 years agoVolunteer groups to pick, redistribute and utilise excess home grown produce
Community led working groups to pick excess fruit grown in people's homes that is unused or not able to be picked. Fruit to be distributed to those who will use it or made into something else, such as, jam etc
