Proposed Child Safe Policy update

This consultation follows changes made by the Victorian Government to make sure that child safety is a priority in any organisation, and that organisations have clear policies that promote child safety. The updated standards also have a specific focus on promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal children.

In Victoria, the Child Safe Standards have been in operation since 2016. A Royal Commission report in 2019 recommended 10 National Principles for Child Safe organisations, to create a nationally consistent approach to child safety. In 2022, the Victorian Child Safe Standards were updated and expanded to align with the National Principles, resulting in the 11 Child Safe Standards now in place in Victoria.

Wellington Shire Council is committed to child safety and has a Child Safe Policy for staff. Since the Victorian Child Safe Standards has been updated, this policy has been expanded and is proposed to become an outward-facing document demonstrating our public commitment to child safety.

Please use this opportunity to read the new Draft Child Safe Policy and provide your feedback before Wednesday 5 April 2023.
